This little corgi tries to draw attention to themselves in an unbelievably amusing way during their owner’s marathon meeting.

The lockdown caused by the pandemic, and the blending of work and private life, created many memorable moments – we can still picture the BBC expert whose interview was interrupted by their children, or the lawyer with the cat face who could not turn off the cat filter during an online hearing. Online meetings have stayed with us, as have the funny situations connected to them – and this visibly bored little corgi may have brought cheerful moments to many.

Short legs, long ears, small body, big personality – this is the corgi

Do not be fooled by appearances: the corgi is not a lap dog

Those unfamiliar with the breed may find it surprising that the corgi was originally bred for herding tasks. Whether they live in a flat or on a farm, these little dogs remain herding dogs at heart – if they are not sufficiently tired out physically and mentally, they will certainly find other activities for themselves. Since they possess outstanding intelligence and at least as much determination, they are able to draw attention to themselves in very creative ways.

Excuse me sir, but there is a fish jumping behind you

In this video, we can see the little dog’s first funny recording, as they continuously fling one of their toys – a plush fish – towards their owner, which for the meeting participants looks as if a real fish is jumping into the air from behind the man. It is also worth watching this compilation video, in which the dog’s best throws have been edited together.

Why does this dog throw their toys into the air?

There may be several explanations for this amusing action. It is obvious that the little corgi is bored, so they try to occupy themselves. However, throwing plush toys is not just harmless play: the fact that they do this half a metre from their owner and aim towards them clearly shows that they are trying to draw their attention. Moreover, if a dog experiences that their behaviour triggers a positive reaction from their audience – laughter, attention – then it can easily be reinforced and appear more frequently – in the case of the corgi, causing funny moments for the participants of the meeting.
