Our dogs often carry a piece of our soul with them. But occasionally, they like to show us that they feel the same way about us. The points discussed below are proof of this.

We won't lie, having a dog has its ups and downs, and obviously not every day is a fairytale. In return for the care, we receive seemingly endless love and loyalty, which warms your heart every day. And our favorite brings a lot of joy and laughter to our lives, and we can learn a lot from him and with him. The close bond formed with a dog is therefore very special and unique in each case. And it is important to keep this in mind when reading the signs below, as each individual has its own characteristics, so it is possible that they will show their love in different ways. However, the following can be sure indicators that you are important to your dog.

This is how your dog shows you that you are important to him

As we mentioned before, every dog is different, so don't be discouraged if you can't tick off all of the signs below.

1.) He demands your attention

Some people interpret this sign as insatiability or willfulness, but this is not necessarily correct. Sometimes our pet really gets on our nerves by wanting to be the center of attention, but most of the time it is just a sign that we are important to him - he loves joint programs, he loves spending time together, so he wants as much of them as possible. So the next time your dog invites you to play or walk outside of the daily routine, or is more cuddly than usual, don't be discouraged - if you have the opportunity, take some time for him.

We would like to add a few more details to this point. It is important to recognize if your dog is doing this because the amount of time or quality of routine activity does not meet their needs. To consider this, it is essential to be honest with yourself – and if you feel that you do not know what needs to be changed, it may be worth visiting a trusted expert with whom you can discuss the details of your daily routine. Another noteworthy addition is that, of course, it is also part of harmonious coexistence for the dog to recognize those situations when its owner really does not have the opportunity to deal with it – or, if it does not recognize it on its own, to accept when its owner says no.

2.) Wants to be close to you

Somehow related to the previous sign, yet a more passive form of it. In this case, the dog does not necessarily want the active attention of its owner, but wants to be close to him, and even requires physical proximity. This is often manifested by cuddling up to the person, perhaps putting its head on them, pawing them... The presence and physical proximity of a beloved caregiver usually gives dogs a sense of security, so it is not surprising that they also indicate the importance of their owner in this way.

3.) If he could, he wouldn't give you any privacy

You can also tell that you are important to your pet if he follows you almost everywhere. If you move from one room to another, he will most likely come to you again, and he may even go into the bathroom with you. This is completely normal behavior up to a point, as they are curious about what their owner is doing, and their proximity gives them a sense of security. However, beyond a certain point, we may be dealing with separation anxiety, so if you notice other signs of this in your pet, it is worth seeking professional help.

It's also worth noting that no matter how affectionate a dog is, there may be days when they feel completely comfortable a room away, and in fact, there are some dogs who, no matter how much they love their owner, do not constantly walk in their shadow.

4.) A true watchdog

If your pet checks in on you several times a day to make sure you're okay, it's more than likely that you're important to them. When dogs just show up for a petting session and then return to their resting spot, or look up at their owner during a walk, it's a sure sign that the two-legged friend is central to their lives.

5.) Your personal welcoming committee

A heartfelt greeting from your pet is always a heartwarming experience – and a distinctive, enthusiastic greeting is also a sign that you are important to your pet.

6.) Knows when you need it

Some people jokingly call dogs “furry” or “four-legged therapists,” and honestly, there’s no arguing with that nickname. Our pets are extremely sensitive to our mood swings and know when we need comfort without words. This can be demonstrated, for example, by a basically energetic dog quietly snuggling up to its owner or giving you an extra “kiss” or two when you’re having a tough day.

7.) He doesn’t mind eye contact – in fact, he often seeks it

Eye contact is a versatile form of communication, the meaning of which can vary greatly depending on the context. But on a calm weekday or while learning a trick, making eye contact reveals trust and affection.

For most animals, eye contact can be intimidating or confrontational, so if a dog chooses to make eye contact, it is often a sign of safety
