Just as dawn was breaking, deer roaring can be heard in the distance, and the herd of wild boar are leisurely feeding at the feeder. This carefree, peaceful scene appears before our eyes, however golden jackals also live in the Gemenc Forest. Hungry jackals.
Golden jackals prowling on the periphery of the footage appear, who would certainly like to get their fill. Although it seems that the wild boar do not take any notice of them, we are sure that they keep one eye on the jackals the whole time. One brave sow got fed up that the predators were loitering there, and decisively went after them, and they thought it better to move on.
This is a lovely little piece of footage for our hearts from the Gemenc Forest. There is no drama or nerve-wracking tension in it – we can simply observe the inhabitants of the forest during their everyday lives. We have already written a lot to you about the golden jackal, so you surely know that here they have no natural enemy, so they reproduce more easily, and cause damage not only to the game population, but even to livestock as well. They are classified as vermin, therefore they may be culled all year round. Despite this, we look at them with the very same childlike admiration as at other animals, and indeed, if we take a closer look, they have many exciting characteristics.
