At the event, the fastest representatives of some of America's favourite breeds also presented themselves, such as the dachshunds, Belgian Malinois, and Pembroke Welsh Corgis. The AKC Fastest Dogs USA competition was held on 1 May in Fort Stewart, where the country’s fastest dogs galloped after the much-desired "rabbit" lure on the 100-yard, that is, 91.44-metre-long Fast CAT run.

So did the super-fast dachshund called Brosie, visible in the video below, for whom there clearly was no obstacle!

What is Fast CAT?

Fast CAT, which stands for Coursing Ability Test, is a timed, 91.44-metre sprint run where the dogs race one by one after a lure. It is over in the blink of an eye, yet it is a breathtaking sight as our little friends dash at top speed, with their ears flying and folded back, while their eyes are locked on the target every tenth of a second. Fast CAT is open to all dogs, whether purebred or mixed. If your dog loves running and chasing, Fast CAT will be a perfect experience for them! From there on, the only question is: how fast can they sprint?

The importance of exercising dogs

Just as it is for us, physical movement is essential for our beloved four-legged friends too. It is important that we recognise the significance of this in time, as regular physical activity plays a key role not only in preserving our dogs’ health but also in ensuring their happiness. Movement not only helps maintain their physical fitness but is also essential for mental freshness and general well-being.

Let’s now take a look at the advantages that speak in favour of exercise!

  • Physical fitness: our pets also need regular physical exercise to maintain a healthy body weight and to prevent problems related to obesity. Exercise helps burn off extra calories, builds stronger muscles, and supports the health of the cardiovascular system. And of course, not least, it also keeps the joints flexible.
  • Mental stimulation: our little friends need mental challenges too, for which movement is an excellent activity. Interactive and puzzle games, as well as obedience training, develop their cognitive abilities, improve concentration, and strengthen problem-solving skills.
  • Behaviour improvement: exercise is also key in the prevention and treatment of behavioural problems, as regular physical activity helps to discharge accumulated energy, reduces anxiety and hyperactivity.
  • Socialisation opportunities: movement provides an excellent opportunity for both dogs and their owners for positive socialisation. Dog parks, walks with other dogs, or visits to dog parks improve social behaviour, increase confidence, and strengthen bonds with other pets and people too.
  • Stronger bonding: and finally, but not least, it is also worth mentioning that shared physical activity strengthens the bond between the owner and the dog. Whether it is hiking, playing fetch or a calm walk, movement provides quality time spent together.,
