Reggie the Great Dane is officially the tallest male dog, while Pearl the Chihuahua is the smallest at 9 centimetres. The two Guinness World Records holders met recently: watch the video to see their size!
Seven-year-old Reggie, officially Reginald, is about one metre tall, so there is a significant size difference between him and Pearl. The Chihuahua's owner, Vanessa Semler, decided to visit the giant dog and his owner Sam Johnson in Idaho. So they set off from Florida, and fortunately not in vain: the two dogs quickly found common ground, got on well and the meeting became a worldwide sensation.
I was surprised that Pearl was not more afraid of Reggie. She was so excited and interested in him, and Reggie just looked at her like: Wow, I have no idea what that is
– said the owner of the Great Dane.
As the video below shows, the two record holders really enjoyed each other's company. It's a particularly amusing scene to see the dripping chihuahua sitting in, or rather barely out of, the huge Great Dane's bowl. It's a great illustration of the size difference between the two dogs.
The world's tallest dog was another Great Dane, Zeus, at 107 centimetres tall. The late record holder passed away in 2014. But no dog has ever lived smaller than Pearl, at least according to Guinness. Interestingly, the Chihuahua is related to the previous record holder, Millie.
